To Vaccinate or Not to Vaccinate—opinion

چکیده

I agree with Dr. Faro's concern about hepatitis B virus infection and his emphasis upon the hepatitis B vaccine. I would like to emphasize universal coverage, beyond the focus upon sexually active adolescents. This population should be cared for because of their high-risk sexual activity. However, they should not be our sole concern. Approximately half of our married population in their 20s and 30s get divorced. I've been impressed that divorce for many women is followed by a period of sexual activity with more than one sexual partner. Obstetrician-gynecol-ogists should be proponents for universal hepatitis B immunization for all women. As advocates for the best health care for women, we should not be satisfied with anything less.

The decision depends on the perceived risks from vaccination and infection, but also depends on the decision of all other people: if ...

To Vaccinate or to Procrastinate? That is the Prevention Question.

Invoking Yaari's dual theory, we develop a model of individual vaccination decisions that incorporates quasi-hyperbolic discounting, risk aversion, and information. We test the resulting hypotheses for the flu season 2010/2011 using a representative German data set. We find a significant impact of time preferences on immunization decisions. The impact of the discount factor is significantly neg...

Negative attitude and low intention to vaccinate universally against varicella among public health professionals and parents in the Netherlands: two internet surveys

BACKGROUND Prior to introduction of universal varicella vaccination, it is crucial to gain insight into the willingness to vaccinate among the population. This is because suboptimal national vaccination coverage might increase the age of infection in children, which will lead to higher complication rates. We studied the attitude and intention to vaccinate against varicella among Dutch public he...

A self-affirmation exercise does not improve intentions to vaccinate among parents with negative vaccine attitudes (and may decrease intentions to vaccinate)

Two studies investigated the effectiveness of a self-affirmation exercise on vaccine safety beliefs and intent to vaccinate future children. In Study 1, a sample of 585 parents with at least one child under the age of 18 in the home participated through Amazon's MTurk. Participants were randomly assigned to one of four conditions in a 2 x 2 design. Participants read either correcting informatio...
